World News@lemmy.ml•Russia files lawsuit against Euroclear as Europe bickers over frozen assets
6·22 hours agoGiven that they want to steal Russian assets because they’ve run out of money to fund the war, it’s not clear where the money to compensate Euroclear would come from. However, that’s not really even the main issue. The real risk is that Europe becomes toxic to foreign investment once they do this. Nobody in their right mind would ever park money in Europe or invest into European industry after that. The whole attempt to seize Nexperia doesn’t help build confidence either. And of course, foreign money that’s currently in Europe is going to flee as well which will lead to a huge financial crisis bringing us back to the question of how the EC can possibly reimburse anything.

World News@lemmy.ml•Is Europe ready to pull the trigger? Officials whisper about dumping US treasuries if Trump cuts Ukraine deal
3·3 days agoExactly, it’s far more likely that the US dumps Europe than the other way around. I think the US would be very happy if the EU fell apart because then they’d be negotiating with individual countries from a position of absolute power. And the recent policy paper kinds of spells this out https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2025-National-Security-Strategy.pdf

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelensky’s Government Sabotaged Oversight, Allowing Corruption to Fester
7·6 days agoSo you think because I don’t support Ukraine murdering people I support other people being killed? hat’s a pretty ridiculous statement. Also you should probably look back at what was happening there because your memory of the situation seems extremely skewed. Other people have already provided sources you could read instead of making a clown of yourself in public.

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelensky’s Government Sabotaged Oversight, Allowing Corruption to Fester
8·6 days agoNATO started coming apart because NATO lost its proxy war against Russia, and the US is now throwing Europe under the bus while retrenching. It’s an incredibly infantile world view to think that all this is a result of a single individual making decision unilaterally. Weird how fash like you didn’t say a peep when the western installed regime in Ukraine has been killing people in Donbas for the past eight years. Stop pretending like you have some moral high ground.

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelensky’s Government Sabotaged Oversight, Allowing Corruption to Fester
8·6 days agoIt’s clearly taken far lass than a decade for NATO to start coming apart, and it didn’t even fight Russia directly yet. So maybe come down there baby Hitler.

101·7 days agoOh, is that all? Just ‘route the corruption’ and then casually ‘split up’ world’s biggest nuclear power? Totally won’t end in global glassing. It’s amazing how you solved a complex geopolitical crisis with the logic of a toddler smashing LEGOs.

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelensky’s Government Sabotaged Oversight, Allowing Corruption to Fester
13·7 days agoThe funniest part is how this was widely reported in mainstream western media before the war started. Now that the US wants to wind the war down, all of a sudden omertà on reporting these things is lifted.

8·12 days agoThe one consistent theme throughout the war has been that western analysts have solely focused on considering the negative consequences for Russia without ever stopping to think what the negative consequences for the west might be.

World News@lemmy.ml•China has lent more to US than any other country since 2000, report finds
10·16 days agoWe are witnessing the purest expression of imperial hypocrisy. For years, the US propaganda apparatus diligently constructed a fable, a so called “debt trap” mythology, to frighten the nations of the Global South away from China’s Belt and Road Initiative. It was a tale of predatory lending designed to isolate and contain a strategic competitor.
And yet, what do we find? The most eager client for these very loans, to the tune of over 200 billion dollars, was none other than the United States itself. Turns out that the entire narrative was a conscious fraud. They never believed their own warnings. They recognized that Chinese financing was a credible, attractive alternative to the stranglehold of Western financial institutions.
So, while publicly sounding the alarm to scare away other customers, the empire privately availed itself of the service. Here we see the very essence of imperial strategy. Its goal is to monopolize the very resources and opportunities it denies to others, all while cloaking its cynical self interest in the righteous language of concern.

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelenskyy’s grim choice: Take Trump’s peace deal or rely on flaky European friends

BRICS countries are the most likely destinations. There’s little chance that anybody outside the west would park money in Europe at this point.
